Since 2023
A coffee van, two little boys, and a town they found by accident.
Cass and Oz Fikri were Sydney people. Between them they had years in hotel and event management, a cafe and takeaway store, and a kebab shop they ran for twelve years. What they wanted was a slower way to raise their two boys.
They found Narrandera by chance, passing through on a road trip, and the town talked them into staying. As they put it themselves, they were hoping for somewhere quiet and peaceful and landed on the main street of a rural paradise, full of locals and travellers with old fashioned community values.
It took more than six months to build. The Yard opened in March 2023 in the yard of 80 East Street, where the old Commonwealth Bank once stood, and where a Video Ezy and a sewing shop came and went in between. The building is on the Narrandera Heritage tour.
“It feels surreal. We are just overwhelmed with the response from the community and so many locals lending us a hand to get ready.”
Cassie Fikri, Narrandera Argus
